School's back for another year...

This time of year is always a little up & down for me, I know it is time for my boys to head back to school, and they are well and truly ready, but I have a a heavy heart on that first day of school as I say goodbye.  I know it means a lot more time to work, and get on with things that need doing without the interruptions of "Mum my drink bottle needs a re-fill", "Mum, I am hungry...AGAIN!" or "Mum, can you tell me when the first Chinese coin was invented?", but it also means another year older, another year close to independence.

Already Mr 5 is telling me after just 3 days of school to leave him in the car park, he is quite capable of walking himself to the classroom, and he will see me at 3.10pm, he might be ready for that, but I certainly am not! I do feel blessed that he has settled so well, as Mr 7 has taken a lot longer to settle into school, but I can't help feeling a little redundant!

So I wonder how all the other Mum's out there feel when school goes back?  And I wonder as the years go on if it gets a little easier?

Cyclone Bianca set to cross into WA Sunday

Batten down the hatches a cyclones a coming!  Well that is what they are forecasting, due to reach Perth's Southwest, including Perth on Sunday sometime.  They are predicting strong winds and flash flooding, but do say that it won't bring down your house only trees....ah OK, that makes me feel a little better!  They suggest that residents keep informed, and make sure loose objects are secured.  I was wondering if my local shire where staying informed, as we have rubbish collection scheduled, and the streets are already starting to become a littered mess with boxes and junk flying all over the neighbourhood?  Imagine how things will look Monday?  I may end up with next doors PC on my doorstep, or even a new clothesline from the verge across the road!  As long as we are all informed.....right?  I am sure she will end up being just a few drops of rain & windy day....here's hoping, as I have a lot sewing to do this weekend! Hope you are all enjoying your Friday where ever you may be x

Artisan : noun
a worker in a skilled trade, esp. one that involves making things by hand.

Well I think that is the category I fall into, I like to dabble in everything from painting, to sewing, to knitting & sculpting, through to reborning, oh and the list goes on. It isn't unusual for my very patient hubby to listen to be rabbiting, very animatedly, about my next hair-brain idea, or how I have to get moving on something that I have in my mind.... And maybe my work isn't to everyone's taste, but it is what keeps me sane....
Considering this blog is supposed to be an artistic blog of sorts, I thought I better get moving on the artistic stuff!   Oh, and one more thing...I started off painting at an early age, but my first business www.masquerademayhem.com.au is what really started the ball rolling.  I have grown, I have slept less, I have stressed, and I have enjoyed, and it continues, but that, is a blog for another day. So here you have a snippet of Deanne's Homespun Treasures....

Painting & drawing is where I started.........

......my masks have taken me on an amazing journey, and continue to do so.....

.....but now I do other stuff....Like these giraffe heads that I made for one of my boys school concerts....

....not to mention knitting......

.....and who could forget these gorgeous, but very time consuming, reborn babies.....

......thongs & headbands?

........And these, my new favourites!  Soft dollies x

Ok, that's me...I'm done.  All in the day of an artisan...Night, night xxxx

 HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!

 I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!

Well it couldn't be more true this Australia day, with so many of our fellow Aussies facing some of the most terrifying times of their lives.  Ravaged by floods & bush fires, the devastation was felt in so many parts of the country.  Whilst most of us looked on in dis-belief, horror & with tears in our eyes, one thing is for sure, we now stand united.  Something that makes me proud to be an Australian this Australia day.  We rally, we help, we lend a hand, and we even become a human crutch for those that need us.  I know we have some issues, but from a woman that has spent time living abroad, I am very happy & PROUD to call Australia home!  Happy Australia Day

A perfectly kept house is the sign of a misspent life....

What do you think about that?  Since having my children I have been lucky enough to able to work from home, crafting, or as my husband calls it, being a "crafteneur"....but most days I set myself some pretty high expectations.  These are not to impress others, but what I expect from myself.  Since having my boys I feel that if I don't have a full order book, a happy family, and a kept house, that I am failing...MYSELF, that I am somehow lazy or idle.  I switched having a boss, to being my own biggest critic, and boy some days I wish I could haul myself into the office and tell myself to relax, put my feet up and take an extra long lunch break.  I am sure that there are many women out there just like me, running busy houses, childrens ever expanding schedules and successful businesses, and it brings me back to the initial question....Is it a sign of a misspent life or just wanting it all?  We have been given the right to have it all, so why not run with it....right?  Or maybe I am just heading for frazzled at 50 x

BLOGGER........
The definition in the dictionary is : an individual who produces an ongoing narrative....

EEEK!  I wonder at this point how I will manage an ongoing narrative, as some days I struggle with an ongoing verbal sentence!  But as so many of my fellow artisans create their own spectacular blogs, I want to have a try too! I can't promise that it will always be the best piece of narrative you have read....but I do promise that I will have probably stewed over the dozen or so sentences before you!  Hope to see you hanging around, and even on some days, enjoying a good read x
